7 Bollywood stars who faced cases of Defamation
If there’s fame, there’s defamation too. Bollywood stars are public figures, and thus they’re extremely conscious about their image. But at times, things go the other way. There have been instances when their names have been linked in cases of defamation. Here are few instances…
1 Sunny Leone and Pooja Missra
Pooja Misrra, who rose to limelight, with her stint in ‘Bigg Boss’ season 5, has slammed her co-contestant Sunny Leone with a defamation case. Pooja is demanding Rs 100 crore from Sunny for defaming her by attributing motives against her in an impunged article in a newspaper. Misrra claimed that Sunny gave defamatory interviews to the media against her in the wake of malice and jealousy.
2 Aditya Pancholi and Rabia Khan
Aditya Pancholi and his wife had filed a defamation case against late Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan for allegedly passing defamatory comments against Pancholis. Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj Pancholi was framed in the case of abetment of suicide in Jiah Khan’s case and apparently Rabia Khan had posted some defamatory and abusive tweets against Pancholis, putting them in poor light in the eyes of society.
3 Kamaal R Khan
Kamaal R Khan will be Kamaal R Khan. Most of his rants do not make sense. He had approached MP Digvijay Singh to keep a strip show of Sunny Leone at his wedding. He was apparently even ready to pay Rs 1 crore to watch it! Post this, Sunny’s lawyer moved on to file a defamation case against him.
4 Sadhana Shivdasan
Veteran actress Sadhana Shivdasani recently passed away, leaving all the artists mourning for her. After her demise, her lawyer revealed that she was dealing with three court cases out of which one was of defamation. Her landlord had filed it against her. He claimed of being implicated falsely.
5 Sherlyn Chopra
Rupesh Paul, the director of ‘Kamasutra 3D’ lodged a defamation case against actress Sherlyn Chopra. Chopra had earlier reported to a police station in Mumbai that Paul had paid him Rs 7 lakh less as the remuneration for acting in his film. Paul’s complaint stated that the actress had used abusive language for him on Twitter.
6 Salman Khan
Salman Khan was slammed by producer Vijay Galani, the producer of ‘Veer’. The film featured Salman opposite Zareen Khan. The complaint accused him of ‘misconduct in professional behaviour, mental agony and loss of reputation’.
What exactly happened?
“I agreed to give Salman a signing amount of Rs 10 crore for ‘Veer’. In his entire career, Salman had not received this kind of a signing amount. In fact his entire fee for ‘Yuvraaj’ and ‘Wanted’ and other films during that period was around Rs 7-8 crore each. Even Salim Saab said this signing amount was unprecedented. Besides this amount, we agreed that Salman would get Rs 15 crore if and when there is an ‘overflow’ (profits made by the film). Salman completed the film happily. And I sold the film to Eros Entertainment. Eros, Salman and I drew up a tri-party agreement that the first overflow amount of Rs 15 crore would go to Salman,” the producer had said to DNA.
Even though the film didn’t earn profit, Salman sent a written letter to Vijay asking to see the original copy of the agreement. Not only that, he moved to various organisations, seeking his portion of the overflow amount where there was no such thing!
7 Suniel Shetty
Delhi-based stuntman Pooran Chauhan had filed a case of defamation against Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty. Chauhan accused Shetty of making false statement against him which stated that he had beaten him inside the washroom in the Delhi High Court premises. However, due to lack of evidence, the court dropped the case against Shetty.
