5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Judge Sunny Leone
Sunny Leone is no stranger to controversies. Indian ministers have taken jibes at her, rumours abound about how she was harassed by certain Bollywood members, casting couch et al, and the general baggage that comes with being known as an ‘adult film star’ hasn’t really surprised anyone. But this time around, the controversy has become bigger than all of this.
Recently, a leading television journalist conducted an interview with her, which was tainted with smugness, condensation and judgement. And the Internet is reacting. Here’s why you should too!
Bollywood loves her: Provocation, as this interview has proven, leads to the most controversial headlines. But when it came to Sunny, it just revealed how Bollywood has embraced her! In the past, stars like Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Ekta Kapoor and SRK have openly expressed a wish to work with her. And after the journalist in question asked her, rhetorically, whether a star like Aamir Khan would ever do a movie with her, Aamir Khan tweeted that he would love to work with her. Since then, celebs like Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma have also tweeted in support.
She is a desi designer muse: Sunny has a stunning sense of style, and is known to patronize only Indian designers – from the well-known to the upcoming. From Sonia Mehra, Archana Kochchar to Rocky S she has modelled, walked on the ramp and played muse to Indian fashion frat pack. Sunny is comfortable in her own skin, and for that we applaud her.
Everyone has a past: When crimes and misdemeanors have been forgiven (we’re looking at you, Sallu Bhai), then a woman owning her past, which she claims was a choice she made of her own agency, deserves more sensitivity.
She’s a professional: Sunny has been called a crossover star, and has worked her way up just like any other outsider. Being Indo-Canadian, she faced language issues too. “I am learning Hindi, learning to dance and learning all these little things about this industry, how it works. I have been told how Katrina Kaif also learnt them all, slowly but surely," she said in an interview.
She is the most searched Indian: Have you ever Googled Sunny Leone? Raise your hand if you have and stop denying your curiosity or voyeurism! Sunny beat even Narendra Modi to become the most searched Indian, proving again that somewhere in our culture lies an inherent hypocrisy. We are obsessed with Sunny.
